The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has issued a high priority directive making cybersecurity training compulsory for all private school staff operating in Islamabad. The instruction follows recent directions from the Prime Minister aimed at strengthening institutional cyberspace safeguards and enhancing resilience across public and private sector organisations. Under the new mandate, all private educational institutions in the Islamabad Capital Territory are required to ensure that their teaching as well as non teaching personnel complete certified training in digital safety and cybersecurity within the prescribed timeframe.
The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority, commonly known as ICT PEIRA, has partnered with Cisco Networking Academy to implement the nationwide capacity building initiative at the federal capital level. According to the directive, the requirement applies to every staff member who uses computers, official email systems, cloud platforms, or mobile devices as part of their routine institutional responsibilities. Authorities have noted that as administrative workflows increasingly depend on digital tools and artificial intelligence enabled platforms, exposure to cyber risks has expanded significantly, making structured training essential rather than optional.
Officials have warned that threats such as phishing attempts, ransomware incidents, data leaks, and unauthorised system access are becoming more frequent as schools adopt online management systems, digital fee collection mechanisms, and virtual communication platforms. In response, the government has made it legally mandatory for relevant personnel to enroll in and successfully complete specialised online modules focused on cybersecurity awareness, safe digital practices, and responsible use of artificial intelligence tools in administrative and academic settings. The initiative is being framed as part of a broader push to strengthen digital governance standards within the education sector and ensure that institutional data including student records and financial information remains protected.
The Ministry has set March 8, 2026 as the final deadline for completion of the required certifications. School administrations have been directed to treat compliance as a top priority and to facilitate immediate enrollment of their staff members. Authorities have indicated that the measure is intended to reinforce institutional resilience against evolving cyber threats while supporting the safe integration of emerging technologies into Pakistan’s education ecosystem.
