Google has started rolling out its March Pixel Drop update to compatible Pixel smartphones and smartwatches, offering a collection of ten new features and improvements designed to enhance user experience across visual search, artificial intelligence, and wearable technology. The update is being released gradually over the next several weeks and arrives ahead of the expected launch of Android 17, Google’s next major mobile operating system. This update reflects Google’s ongoing effort to expand Pixel devices’ capabilities and deliver smarter tools that integrate seamlessly into daily life.
One of the major highlights of the March Pixel Drop is the enhancement of Circle to Search, which now supports multi-object recognition. Previously, the tool was limited to focusing on a single object within a selected area of an image, but the latest update allows users to identify multiple items simultaneously. Google has provided practical examples, such as distinguishing all plants in a botanical garden, identifying every character in a movie trailer, or separating all components in a bento box. A new “Try It On” feature also allows users to superimpose clothing items onto an image of themselves, giving a preview of how outfits would appear without leaving the app interface.
Google’s Gemini AI has also gained improved functionality, moving closer to serving as a more capable digital assistant. In its current beta stage, Gemini can interact with third-party apps like DoorDash and Uber to order groceries or request transportation on behalf of the user. This feature is limited to Pixel 10-series devices, but it demonstrates Google’s focus on integrating AI into everyday tasks. Magic Cue, which was introduced alongside the Pixel 10 series, has been refined to provide more accurate and helpful contextual suggestions. For example, users discussing where to eat in a messaging app will now receive restaurant recommendations powered by Gemini, eliminating the need to leave the conversation.
Another significant enhancement comes with the Now Playing feature, which continuously identifies music playing in the background. With this update, Now Playing has been separated into a standalone app, giving users a centralized location to review previously detected tracks and play them through their preferred music service. Beyond these prominent features, the update also includes new insights in the At a Glance section, AI-generated custom icons for personalization, and the expansion of key AI capabilities to more regions. Pixel Watch users will benefit from new alerts and protection features when leaving their phone behind, gesture controls for the Pixel Watch 3 model, as well as enhanced earthquake alerts and expanded Satellite SOS functionality. Together, these updates reinforce Google’s commitment to delivering intelligent, integrated, and responsive features across its Pixel ecosystem.
