In the next three to five years, Google Fiber, an Alphabet firm that specialises in providing high-speed internet access in the US, plans to aspire to expand the scope of its fibre services.

In addition to the states of Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, and Idaho that were previously mentioned, the company also plans to start providing fibre services in five additional states. According to Reuters, Google Fiber wants to increase the number of metro areas in its current network of 17 to 22.

This is a significant improvement over 2016, when the company reportedly eliminated 9% of its workforce and delayed plans to offer services in more than a dozen places.areas including Louisville, Kentucky, and Kansas City.

However, it appears that the business is now ready to expand. CEO Dinni Jain told Reuters that the company is poised to “add a little bit greater construction pace.” After beginning operations in West Des Moines, Iowa, in March—the first new state it has entered in five years—it announced that it will be expanding to Des Moines the following month. According to Reuters, Google Fiber constructed more in 2021 than it had “in the past few years combined.”

Jain contends that despite his optimism for a revival, Google Fiber’s goals are still modest. According to him, there was a misperception about Google Fiber 10 years ago that it was trying to enhance the entire nation. With this gesture, we are indicating that we do not intend to build the entire nation. According to Jain’s blog post, growth will continue in the current metro areas as well as the additional states.

In 2010, Google Fiber was established to promote the use of cheaper, faster internet connections. by both directly supplying them and encouraging competition among reputable US providers, respectively. As a former Time Warner executive, Jain claims that Google pressured him. We were quite afraid, he told Reuters.

The announcement of Google Fiber’s growth plans coincides with cost-cutting measures being taken by Google and the IT sector as a whole. As the economy continues to deteriorate, the corporation last month issued a two-week recruiting hold. when evaluating the requirements for a workforce. In recent years, Alphabet has become more willing to drop experimental ventures. The company will also stop selling energy kites in 2020. Last year, it shut down the balloon-based internet service provider Loon.

Building successful independent enterprises is the goal. And Jain confirmed in a statement to Reuters that this is the exact goal of Google Fiber.
