The federal government has announced a significant reshuffle in the Information Technology and Telecommunications sector, with Hassan Nasir Jami being transferred from his position as Federal Secretary. In his place, Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Mehmood has been appointed as the Additional Secretary (Incharge) of the IT and Telecommunication Division.

The establishment division issued a notification confirming the transfer of Hassan Nasir Jami, a grade 22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, to the role of Secretary of the National Heritage and Culture Division, effective immediately.

Taking over the reins of the IT and Telecommunication Division is Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Mehmood, a seasoned Bs-21 officer with extensive experience in federal and provincial administrations. His previous roles include serving as Federal Secretary of Petroleum and Commissioner of Rawalpindi.

However, reports suggest that Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Mehmood faced criticism during his tenure as Additional Secretary (in-charge) of National Food Security and Research, allegedly slowing down the progress of certain agriculture-related projects.

Furthermore, Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Mehmood’s involvement in the recent ring road project corruption scandal has raised concerns. The Punjab Anti-Corruption Department is currently investigating the matter, casting a shadow over his appointment to the IT and Telecommunication Division.
