Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has rolled out an updated version of its IRIS registry portal in its ongoing effort to simplify and digitize tax processes. The IRIS system, which serves as the main online platform for tax filing and compliance in Pakistan, now features enhanced tools designed to improve recovery operations, streamline integration with taxpayer profiles, and make registration and profile management easier for both individuals and organizations. This deployment signals FBR’s continued emphasis on making tax administration more efficient and accessible in line with the country’s digital transformation goals.

According to FBR, the new registry version introduces a set of improvements that are intended to address pain points frequently raised by taxpayers. Recovery processes have been upgraded to enable faster tracking and resolution of pending recoveries. Profile integration has been strengthened to ensure smoother synchronization with user data, reducing the likelihood of errors when updating or managing tax-related information. The workflows for registration and compliance reporting have also been redesigned to provide a more seamless experience for users, encouraging a larger segment of the population to interact with the system digitally.

Tax professionals note that these enhancements to the IRIS registry form part of a broader strategy to modernize revenue collection and expand Pakistan’s tax base. Over recent years, IRIS has become central to how individuals and businesses meet their tax obligations, and its improvement is seen as an essential step for fostering a culture of compliance. As the government continues to face pressure to increase revenue and improve transparency, simplifying online processes is viewed as a practical way to reduce barriers to entry for new taxpayers.

FBR officials have expressed appreciation to stakeholders who supported the development and rollout of the upgraded system. They stated that the new registry version is not the final stage of digital transformation but part of an ongoing process to refine and enhance tax administration in Pakistan. Further updates and improvements are planned to ensure that the platform remains responsive to evolving needs of taxpayers and businesses. By offering a more integrated and user-friendly experience, FBR aims to build greater confidence in its systems and ultimately boost participation in the formal tax network.
