FBR is cracking down on tax delinquents by blocking the SIM cards of individuals who haven’t filed their income tax returns. As of today, over 105,000 SIM cards linked to non-filers have been blocked. The FBR is sending data of 5,000 non-filers daily to telecom operators for SIM blocking.
There is a path to restoration, however. Over 18,902 individuals have already regained access to their SIMs by filing their tax returns. This initiative follows the establishment of a Joint Working Group between FBR and telecom operators to streamline the process. Leading telecom operators began enforcing the SIM blocking on non-filers from May 20th onwards.
FBR has identified over 506,671 individuals who failed to file their 2023 income tax returns. This crackdown aims to encourage tax compliance and boost government revenue collection. Non-filers who wish to regain access to their SIM cards can do so by filing their tax returns.
