The Faisalabad divisional administration has announced plans to launch a digital public transport system featuring a mobile app with real time vehicle tracking, alongside an electric vehicle battery swapping network intended to modernize urban transport across the division. Commissioner Faisalabad and Faisalabad Urban Transport Society President Imran Hamid Sheikh said the Faisalabad Public Transport App will bring both government and private public transport services across the division’s four districts onto a single digital platform.
The app will allow passengers to track government buses, metro buses, electric buses, and registered urban Hiace vehicles in real time. It will also offer route planning functionality, helping commuters identify the best routes, transfer points, and estimated arrival times for their journeys. Sheikh said the app will be available free of charge and will support digital registration of public transport vehicles through integration with Punjab Information Technology Board, tying the new platform into the province’s existing digital governance infrastructure.
Transport operator registrations are expected to begin within the next 15 days to one month ahead of the app’s official launch, giving operators a window to onboard onto the new system before it becomes publicly available. The commissioner described the initiative as one of the leading integrated digital public transport platforms in Faisalabad, with the potential to serve as a model that other cities across Punjab and Pakistan could later adopt.
The initiative reflects a broader push among Pakistani municipal and provincial authorities to modernize urban transport through digital tools, following similar efforts in cities such as Lahore, where cashless payment systems have recently been introduced across metro and electric bus networks. By combining real time tracking with electric vehicle infrastructure, Faisalabad’s planned rollout adds an additional layer to that broader digital transport modernization trend, positioning the city among a growing number of urban centers integrating technology directly into daily public transit operations.
