Code for Pakistan has announced the launch of the AI for Civic Innovation Hackathon, opening applications for participants across the country. The initiative is being organized in collaboration with FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences Islamabad Campus, Grey Software and Scrimba. The hackathon aims to bring together students, developers, designers, artificial intelligence practitioners and civic innovators to work on technology driven solutions that address real world civic challenges. The program reflects growing interest in applying artificial intelligence within public interest domains, particularly in areas that require innovative and scalable digital interventions.

Participants in the hackathon will focus on developing solutions across three key thematic areas including democracy, inclusion and civic participation, technology for civic good and open data with access to information. These themes are designed to encourage the development of applications that can improve transparency, support community engagement and enhance access to public services through the use of advanced technologies. By structuring the hackathon around these focus areas, organizers aim to align participant efforts with pressing civic needs while encouraging practical experimentation with artificial intelligence tools and data driven approaches.

The event is open to teams consisting of up to four members, allowing individuals from diverse backgrounds to collaborate and contribute their skills. Organizers have highlighted that the hackathon is suitable for a wide range of participants including students, developers, designers, data enthusiasts and problem solvers interested in civic technology. The collaborative nature of the event is expected to foster knowledge sharing and teamwork, while also providing participants with an opportunity to gain hands on experience in building solutions that can be applied in real world scenarios.

Applications for the hackathon are currently open and will close on June 7, 2026. Interested participants can register through the official link at https://lnkd.in/deWqCaVB. The initiative highlights the role of community driven innovation in addressing civic challenges and reflects a broader trend of leveraging artificial intelligence to support public sector improvements. As similar programs continue to emerge, hackathons remain an accessible platform for individuals to experiment with new ideas and contribute to technology based solutions aimed at improving everyday civic experiences.
