A significant milestone was celebrated as 100 high-performing trainees from the People’s Information Technology Programme at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology were presented with Chromebooks by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah. The award ceremony was held at NED University, where a total of 300 Chromebooks were distributed to top achievers from various PITP batches across Sindh. Among them, the MUET cohort stood out for its representation and performance, with trainees selected from the university’s completed batches under PITP Phase I.

During his keynote, Syed Murad Ali Shah highlighted the Sindh Government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive digital development, emphasizing youth empowerment and technology-driven education. He recognized public universities as critical enablers of change and applauded the leadership of Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali, Vice Chancellor MUET, for delivering on PITP’s goals and ensuring equitable outreach across both urban and rural communities. The Chief Minister underscored the transformative role PITP has played in reshaping youth potential, especially with over 62 percent of the MUET trainees hailing from rural areas and more than 33 percent being women.

Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali credited the vision of the Sindh Government for advancing digital inclusion and economic resilience. He shared that PITP had not only imparted essential IT skills but had also empowered young people to explore new digital income streams, achieve self-sufficiency, and pursue remote work opportunities. He reaffirmed MUET’s dedication to the initiative and its long-term objective of equipping underserved youth with relevant tools to succeed in a digital economy.

The event was also attended by senior leadership from MUET including Prof. Dr. Aneel Kumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Focal Person for PITP-MUET, and Prof. Dr. Naeem Mahoto, Deputy Focal Person, along with faculty and management from PITP’s other partner universities—NED University and Sukkur IBA. Their collaboration under PITP Phase I successfully trained 4,504 individuals across nine specialized IT domains, creating a foundation for employment and freelance income generation, particularly for participants from marginalized regions.

With the commencement of PITP Phase II, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced plans to train 35,000 youth across Sindh. The expanded initiative aims to generate an economic impact of over Rs. 5 billion through enhanced employability, digital entrepreneurship, and scalable skill development. MUET is expected to play a central role in this next phase, continuing its contributions toward building a digitally empowered Sindh.
