Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the ambitious “Honhaar Scholarship Program” on Wednesday. The program, valued at Rs. 130 billion, aims to provide financial support to 30,000 students annually, enabling them to pursue higher education without financial constraints.
The launch event, held at Punjab University, witnessed the distribution of scholarship cheques to deserving students. Additionally, the government unveiled an e-portal that will streamline the application process and facilitate scholarship disbursements.
Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized the program’s significance in empowering young individuals. He stated that the Honhaar Scholarship Program will help thousands of students achieve their academic goals and contribute to the province’s development.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be Punjab residents under the age of 22 with a family income of less than Rs. 300,000 per year. The program covers the full tuition fees for undergraduate students enrolled in 4-year or 5-year degree programs at public universities, colleges, and medical colleges.
By providing financial assistance and simplifying the application process, the Punjab government aims to create a more inclusive and equitable education system. The Honhaar Scholarship Program is expected to have a lasting impact on the province’s human capital development.
