It felt quite odd that the last few times I was packing my tech for my vacations, I didn’t feel the need to carry my DSLR. In fact, to be honest, it just felt like a burden to do so because of its size and weight and additional accessories. Like most people, even I’ve begun to feel how this could easily be replaced with my smartphone (even though my old phone had a terrible camera but I would rely on those who were around me to photograph anything I liked). This is obviously mostly because the camera specifications in the newer lot of phones are easily comparable to the quality any DSLR or HD camera would give you.
After a recent-much-needed-smartphone-upgrade, I’ve been playing around with my phone camera a lot and recently came across a toolkit for attachable lens set for smartphones.
Like they said in a Macworld article reviewing a similar product, ‘put a little DSLR on the front of your iPhone’… I decided to do just that!
I stumbled upon some local vendors selling this kit online on Daraz.pk, and instantly ordered this kit, thinking I could do a lot more with my phone camera by just adding these lenses as a support for different photography styles I would like to experiment with.
The packet includes a clip on, much like a clothes peg, which can be very easily clipped onto your phone’s camera lens and has three different attachments; Fish Eye Lens, Macro Lens and a Wide Lens.
Using the Fish Eye Lens, my phone can capture rounded images instead square ones and this one works like an ultra-wide angle lens. Wide Angle Lens allows you to stretch the limits of your lens and is excellent if you want to capture cityscapes or large group shots etc. whereas the Macro Lens enables you to get super close to object to focus on the finest details that one usually misses out on.
The set is accompanied by a small pouch to help you keep all of these in one place and making it very easy for you to carry around, anywhere, anytime. I tested this kit on an iPhone 6 and a Blackberry but this can be attached to iPhone (4 and up), Samsung, HTC, Lenovo, Blackberry, Sony, Qmobile, Huawei and other smartphones and tablets or iPad.
A travel blogger wrote about his trip to Zurich and his experience buying and using this affordable and very low cost smartphone camera lens, which was only 30 euros (it did have 2 more items than this – but 30 euros?!). Or 20 US $ on Amazon.
For those interested, this is available online on Daraz.pk for only Rs. 999 with free delivery nationwide.
Next thing on the list is definitely a portable tripod which is going to complete my traveling tech kit!
