As part of Lahore’s Safe City Project, a Chinese company is set to activate 2,000 new cameras in the city. According to media reports, these cameras will become operational on August 14, 2023, coinciding with Pakistan’s Independence Day.
The primary objective of this project is to enhance the citywide surveillance system and eliminate any existing blind spots, thereby contributing to the safety and security of Lahore’s residents.
Punjab Police Inspector General Usman Anwar has given the Chinese company a deadline of June 29, 2023, to procure and install the necessary equipment for camera installation. The company has imported cameras, power batteries, LED displays, and other technical components required for the project.
The spokesperson for the project mentioned that the Chinese corporation has been assigned a deadline of August 14 to activate the additional 2,000 cameras. By this date, all software, including facial recognition systems, will be fully operational.
The Chinese company bears the responsibility of ensuring the successful implementation and functionality of the Safe City Project in Lahore.
