The Capital Development Authority has announced an upgrade plan for bus stops across Islamabad, introducing a range of digital facilities aimed at improving daily travel for commuters. Officials shared that CDA has begun the revamping process and intends to incorporate new features that support both convenience and safety for passengers. While a full implementation schedule has not been issued, the authority stated that the redesigned stops reflect a broader effort to enhance urban mobility by equipping public transport infrastructure with updated technology and commuter-friendly additions.

According to CDA, the upgraded bus stops will include WiFi connectivity and mobile charging stations, allowing passengers to stay connected and power their devices while waiting for transport. These additions are expected to make long waits more manageable and address a common issue faced by commuters who rely heavily on mobile phones during travel. The design also integrates backlit panels to improve visibility for passengers after sunset, providing better lighting around the area and creating a more comfortable environment while reducing potential safety concerns.

Officials added that the new stops will provide dedicated cycle stands to encourage multi-modal commuting. The stands will allow passengers to securely park their bicycles before switching to public transport services. CDA representatives said this feature supports residents who combine cycling with bus travel as part of their daily routine. Another service that will be available at the upgraded stops is a digital wallet opening facility, enabling passengers to access or initiate digital payment accounts directly at the location. This aligns with ongoing digitisation efforts in urban public services, offering commuters additional flexibility in managing transport-related transactions.

CDA has not yet specified the number of stops that will be included in the initial phase, nor provided a confirmed timeline for completion. However, the authority has indicated that work has already started at selected locations and will continue in stages. The upgrade initiative reflects the city’s intention to improve overall commuting standards by integrating digital tools and better physical infrastructure. These improvements are anticipated to support growing demand for public transport options that align with modern expectations of connectivity, ease of use and enhanced amenities. Officials noted that more information will be shared as the project progresses and additional stops begin receiving the updated facilities.
