British Council Alumni Awards: 9 Finalists From Pakistan

The Study UK Alumni Awards organized by the British Council, celebrate the outstanding achievements of alumni and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education. Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, professions and countries.

Among the finalist, nine Pakistanis were also selected for the entrepreneurial, professional achievement, and social impact categories. Chosen for the professional achievement category are: Dr Umar Saif from the University of Cambridge, who is the Chairman for Punjab IT Board; Amna Zamir from the University of Leicester, a sitting Judge; and Usman Qamar from the University of Manchester, heads the Knowledge and Data Engineering Research Centre at National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad.

Ahmed Daniyal Siddiqui from the University of Strathclyde, Nousheen Zakaria from the University of Leeds and University of Sheffield, and Muhammad Sibtain Jiwani from Manchester Metropolitan University, were chosen for the entrepreneurial category. Abia Akram from the University of Warwick, Muhammad Kamran Siddiqui from Queen Mary University, London and Moneeza Burney from Sheffield Hallam University were selected for the social impact category.

Rosemary Hilhorst, Director of British Council Pakistan speaking about the Alumni Awards said, “I am delighted that Pakistan is hosting the Alumni Awards for the second consecutive year. The award is all about honoring the success of individuals whose achievements here in Pakistan have been, in some measure, influenced by their experience of studying at a UK university,”

Pakistan along with Egypt, Ghana, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey and the USA is to host the award ceremony.
