The Punjab provincial government has appointed Ali Mustafa Dar as Adviser to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Artificial Intelligence and Special Initiatives, creating a new portfolio aimed at advancing innovation led governance and technology driven reforms across the province. The appointment effectively establishes a dedicated framework within the provincial setup to focus on artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and special initiatives designed to modernise public sector operations and service delivery.

As adviser, Ali Mustafa Dar will hold the status and powers of a provincial cabinet minister in accordance with prevailing laws. Advisers are also entitled to attend sessions of the Punjab Assembly, allowing direct engagement with legislative processes related to policy development and oversight. According to sources within the provincial government, the new role has been created to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies in governance, improve efficiency, and support data driven decision making across departments.

Officials said that in his ministerial capacity, Ali will focus on formulating and implementing forward looking projects centred on artificial intelligence and digital transformation. These initiatives are expected to target improved governance mechanisms, enhanced public service delivery, and job creation through technology enabled platforms. The mandate also includes encouraging innovation within the public sector, promoting collaboration with the private sector, and aligning provincial policies with global developments in AI and emerging technologies.

The appointment reflects the Punjab government’s broader push to integrate technology into governance and development planning. By creating a specialised advisory role for artificial intelligence and innovation, the provincial leadership aims to position Punjab as a leading hub for technology driven public sector reform. Further details regarding specific projects and departmental structures under the new portfolio are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as the adviser formally assumes responsibilities.
