Pakistanis grew excited when word of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service’s impending arrival spread around the country, and they eagerly awaited the service’s official launch.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has informed the public that satellite broadband operator Starlink has yet to apply for and be given a licence to operate and supply internet services in Pakistan.
As a result, in their own best interests, the general public is advised to avoid placing any pre-booking orders on Starlink or any of its affiliated websites. The instructions were given in response to allegations that Starlink is charging prospective subscribers a USD99 (refundable) deposit to place a pre-order for equipment or services on their website.
Because Starlink has yet to secure a licence to provide internet services in Pakistan, the PTA has already contacted the company to request that it immediately cease accepting pre-order bookings from potential customers.
PTA must grant Starlink approval and required licences before they may accept orders or pre-bookings.
A SpaceX initiative is Starlink, a satellite broadband provider (an Aerospace company founded by Elon Musk). The project’s purpose is to use a massive constellation of satellites orbiting the Earth to provide high-speed internet access to people all over the world.
