The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) is working on an online site and mobile app to help the National Highways Motorway Police (NHMP) discover false, cancelled, and expired permits.
In addition, the web portal and application will assist law enforcement authorities in detecting driver licence violations in a timely manner.
All of this will be accomplished with the support of the National Data Repository for all driver licences granted by provincial and federal licencing bodies, which PITB will construct with the assistance of NHMP. In this context, at a ceremony conducted at the Arfa Kareem, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Highways Motorway Police and the PITB.
During the ceremony, Zubair Hashmi, Additional Inspector General (Addl IG) Central Region, stated that the National Data Repository intends to create a centralised system via which residents can get a single national driving licence that can be renewed or revoked from any province.
Furthermore, a Point System will be developed in order to improve the country’s driving culture.
“PITB will offer technical assistance and provide essential trainings to NHMP staff on the use of developed applications,” stated PITB Chairman Azfar Manzoor during the event. NHMP will also receive training in order to maintain the applications, services, and systems.”
On behalf of the organisations, PITB Director General IT Operations Faisal Yousaf and NHMP AIG Operations Salman Ali Khan signed the MoU. The ceremony was attended by senior officers from both organisations, including Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), and Adil Iqbal Khan, PITB Additional Director General (ADG) Software Engineering.
