The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) and UN Women have joined forces to promote women’s economic empowerment through digital inclusion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This partnership is part of the Digitalization for Women Economic Empowerment (D4WEE) project, funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The collaboration aims to bridge the gender gap in technology and provide women with equal access to digital tools, training, and employment opportunities. The initiative will focus on districts including Peshawar, Mardan, and Swabi, leveraging KPITB’s strategic leadership and infrastructure, and aligning with provincial digital policies.
Secretary Science, Technology & IT Department, Amjad Ali Khan, emphasized the importance of women’s inclusion in the province’s digital transformation journey, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting women’s digital empowerment. UN Women Pakistan Country Representative, Jamshed Kazi, stressed the need to encourage women and provide them with equal opportunities in the digital economy.
This partnership marks a significant step towards bridging the gender gap in technology, ensuring women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa gain equal access to digital resources, platforms, and economic opportunities. The initiative is expected to accelerate young women’s economic engagement, promote inclusive digital ecosystems, and foster employment in the IT sector.
The D4WEE project is a two-pronged approach, building young women’s capacities in digital and IT-related skills, and fostering an enabling environment through community-based tech hubs, partnerships with the private sector, and engagement with public institutions. The project spans six districts in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aiming to promote inclusive participation in the tech sector and enhance women’s employability in the digital economy.
