In a significant move toward citizen-centric digital governance, NADRA has unveiled a new mobile application that enables Pakistani citizens to register life events—such as births, deaths, and marriages—without needing to visit a government office. The app is part of a broader national initiative to modernize public service delivery and streamline the country’s registration processes through digital tools.
The announcement came during the second meeting of the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework Implementation Committee. The session convened key representatives from federal ministries, regulatory bodies, and provincial departments, highlighting a unified commitment to improving Pakistan’s national database infrastructure.
NADRA Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Munir Afsar emphasized that the new mobile application represents a transformative step in digital public service innovation. “This mobile application enables citizens to register life events online from their homes. Initially, the rollout will begin in Punjab,” he stated during the meeting.
The initiative is designed to improve both accessibility and accuracy in national data collection. To ensure efficient implementation, NADRA is also expanding biometric verification capabilities at union councils throughout Punjab. These facilities will support remote registrations by linking citizen-submitted data to verified digital identities. A live demonstration of the app was presented to officials from the Local Government Department, showcasing its user-friendly interface and registration functionality.
In Islamabad, the digitization efforts are being further enhanced through the establishment of one-window service counters at union councils. These counters are intended to provide streamlined and simplified access to various registration services, particularly for those who may not have smartphones or internet access.
The meeting also included a briefing from the chairman of PTA, who shared progress on the development of a comprehensive national biometric policy. This policy is expected to play a critical role in the integration of secure digital identification systems across various government services. The use of biometrics is seen as a cornerstone of building a robust and fraud-resistant identity verification infrastructure in the country.
This app-based initiative comes at a time when Pakistan is increasingly embracing e-governance as a solution to bureaucratic inefficiencies and limited access in rural areas. By allowing citizens to submit life event details from the comfort of their homes, NADRA is making important strides toward inclusive digital transformation.
The phased rollout in Punjab will serve as a pilot, with potential expansion to other provinces based on performance and feedback. This project also aligns with Pakistan’s broader vision under the Digital Pakistan framework, which aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and citizen trust in public institutions through technology.
NADRA’s new app not only simplifies the process of vital registrations but also underscores the importance of mobile-first public services in bridging the digital divide. As the system evolves, it is expected to significantly reduce the time and logistical hurdles currently faced by citizens, while enhancing the quality of data used for national planning and service delivery.
