Islamabad, February 18, 2026: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken a significant step toward modernizing its workforce by signing a contract with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to deliver customized professional certifications for its officers. This initiative aims to equip FBR personnel from Inland Revenue and Pakistan Customs Services with advanced skills in artificial intelligence, data science, revenue forecasting, customs valuation, advanced audit strategies, supply chain management, trade facilitation, and accounting. The program is part of FBR’s broader push to integrate technology-driven methodologies into taxation and customs operations.

Under the agreement, all BS-17 and BS-18 officers will be required to complete two mandatory three-week certifications. Each course will be delivered through in-person sessions, hands-on labs, and proctored examinations to ensure practical application and mastery of the subject matter. By combining theoretical instruction with experiential learning, FBR aims to strengthen decision-making capabilities, enhance compliance mechanisms, and improve operational efficiency across its revenue and customs functions. The move is seen as a key component in preparing the organization for the evolving digital economy and global trade landscape.

The signing ceremony was attended by FBR leadership, including the Chairman FBR, Member (Admin/HR), Member IR-Operations, Member Customs-Operations, and Directors General of Inland Revenue and Customs Academies, alongside other senior officers. From LUMS, the Dean of the Suleman Dawood School of Business and the Associate Dean of the Rausing Executive Development Centre participated, underscoring the collaboration between academic expertise and public sector capacity-building. This program follows a previously conducted nine-month Post Graduate Diploma for newly inducted FBR officers at LUMS, reflecting a continuous effort to enhance human capital within the organization.

FBR officials highlighted that these certifications will prepare officers to leverage modern technologies such as AI and data analytics in revenue management and trade facilitation. By investing in structured, skill-based training, FBR aims to improve audit precision, forecasting accuracy, and operational efficiency while creating a workforce capable of addressing the complexities of Pakistan’s dynamic economic environment. The initiative also aligns with broader government objectives to digitize public sector operations, enhance transparency, and strengthen Pakistan’s taxation and trade infrastructure through the adoption of advanced technology solutions.
