The Punjab government has set a new benchmark in digital tax collection, amassing over PKR 710 billion since the launch of e-Pay Punjab in October 2019. The digital tax payment system, developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) in collaboration with the Punjab Finance Department, has successfully facilitated more than 78 million online transactions, making it one of the most impactful digital financial initiatives in the province.

During a recent progress review meeting chaired by PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf, it was revealed that e-Pay Punjab has significantly streamlined tax payments, allowing citizens to pay 87 different types of taxes from 18 government departments without the need to visit physical offices. This digital transformation has played a key role in improving tax compliance, enhancing transparency, and reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies in revenue collection.

A major contributor to the success of e-Pay Punjab is its accessibility. The platform enables users to complete transactions from the comfort of their homes through multiple payment channels, including mobile banking, internet banking, ATMs, and over-the-counter payments at designated banks. The system’s growing adoption is evident from the fact that over 5.3 million citizens have downloaded the e-Pay Punjab mobile application, reflecting a shift towards digital financial solutions in government services.

Chairman Faisal Yousaf emphasized the broader impact of e-Pay Punjab, stating that the platform has not only simplified tax payments but has also eliminated the need for intermediaries, reducing corruption and ensuring greater efficiency. He highlighted that continuous enhancements are being made to further improve the user experience and expand the range of services available through the system. The government is actively working on integrating additional services into the platform to make digital tax payments even more convenient for citizens.

The success of e-Pay Punjab aligns with Punjab’s broader digital transformation strategy, which aims to modernize governance through technology-driven solutions. By leveraging data analytics and digital payment infrastructure, the system has improved revenue collection efficiency, making tax payments more transparent and accessible. The initiative serves as a model for other provinces and government departments looking to digitize public services and financial transactions.

As the adoption of e-Pay Punjab continues to grow, the provincial government remains committed to strengthening the platform with innovative features that enhance service delivery. With its robust infrastructure and increasing user base, e-Pay Punjab is set to play a crucial role in driving the digitalization of governance in Pakistan, ensuring a seamless, transparent, and efficient tax collection process.
