The National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced its Automated Finger Identification System (AFIS) called “NADIR” for civil purposes, placing it among the world’s leading biometric identification technology providers.
NADRA is known for its expertise in digital identity management, biometrics, and e-governance. The newly launched NADIR system utilizes fingerprint recognition to establish a highly accurate method of identity verification, achieving a remarkable accuracy rate of over 99.5%.
This indigenous development of AFIS technology showcases Pakistan’s capability to offer advanced solutions in civil identification, border control, and e-governance, competing with established providers from developed nations.
NADRA’s innovative approach reflects its commitment to nation-building and reinforces its position as a global leader in cutting-edge identity management solutions.
NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik, speaking at the launch ceremony said,
“The right kind of innovation builds not only organisations or governments – it also builds countries. Indigenous development of AFIS is a groundbreaking development not only in the field of civil identification but in the pursuit of nation-building as well. With its advanced technology, we can now accurately and quickly store the fingerprints and identify individuals for a wide range of purposes as a public good, from immigration to border control to social services.”
The manufacturers of biometric identification technology from developed nations including the USA, UK, Russia, Japan, France, Germany, and others mostly control the global market.
In terms of civic identity and the goal of nation-building, NADRA’s indigenous creation of AFIS technology is a ground-breaking success. It highlights the company’s dedication to innovation and strengthens its position as a world leader in cutting-edge identity management systems.
