Zong, Pakistan’s leading information services and technology innovation company, has joined hands with Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency to launch a large-scale Tree Plantation Drive across Islamabad as part of its Green and Low Carbon Initiatives. The agreement was signed at a ceremony hosted at Zong Headquarters, where the initiative was inaugurated with the plantation of the first sapling by Syed Abrar Hussain, Director General Pak-EPA; Dr. Mohsina Zubair, Director Pak-EPA; Nabila Yazdani, Head of Corporate Communications, Brand and Sustainability at Zong; and Andleeb Aslam, Deputy Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Zong.

The drive aims to tackle pressing environmental challenges, including climate change, air pollution, and biodiversity loss, by enhancing the green spaces of Islamabad. Around 3,500 indigenous trees are planned to be planted across designated areas of the city, reinforcing urban greenery and improving local ecosystems. Nabila Yazdani emphasized that environmental responsibility is integral to Zong’s operations, stating that the plantation drive reflects the company’s commitment to embedding sustainability into its business practices while creating tangible, long-term benefits for Islamabad and the surrounding areas.

Syed Abrar Hussain highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in addressing environmental issues, noting that initiatives like this can provide measurable improvements in air quality, biodiversity, and climate resilience. He added that planting indigenous trees not only strengthens Islamabad’s green infrastructure but also fosters community awareness and encourages residents to adopt environmentally friendly practices. The drive is designed to cultivate civic engagement and promote a culture of environmental stewardship, with initiatives aimed at educating the public about the benefits of tree planting and sustainable urban practices.

In addition to planting efforts, the partnership will feature awareness campaigns to encourage community participation and highlight the role of citizens in protecting the environment. These campaigns aim to deliver long-term benefits such as carbon sequestration, reduction of urban heat, and enhanced ecosystem services. Through projects like this, Zong continues to demonstrate its focus on sustainable development, community well-being, and environmentally responsible business practices, aligning its operations with broader national efforts to promote a greener future for Pakistan.
