Zong has begun deploying its exclusive 5G ready Indoor Building Solution at Islamabad International Airport, positioning itself as the sole telecom operator offering this infrastructure at the facility. The rollout is accompanied by the launch of a dedicated Customer Facilitation Desk, giving travelers a single point of contact for connectivity related services while moving through the airport.
The infrastructure is designed to deliver consistent, high speed indoor network coverage across passenger terminals, while giving travelers access to instant SIM activation, data services and dedicated on ground customer support. The inauguration ceremony brought together senior leadership from Zong, the Pakistan Airports Authority and Huawei Global, underscoring the collaborative nature of the project across telecom, aviation and technology partners.
Speaking at the ceremony, Zong Chief Technical Officer Mao Weiliang described the deployment as part of building a future ready 5G digital ecosystem at the airport, one intended to improve today’s passenger experience while preparing the facility for more advanced smart aviation services down the line. Zong Executive Director for Sales and Distribution Faheem Durrani said pairing the Customer Facilitation Desk with the new 5G ready infrastructure was meant to make it easier for travelers to stay connected throughout their time at the airport. Islamabad International Airport Manager Aftab Gillani added that the deployment reflects growing traveler expectations for seamless digital experiences alongside modern physical infrastructure, and said the airport views the collaboration as a step toward becoming a more digitally capable facility.
The initiative forms part of Zong’s broader strategy to build intelligent digital infrastructure across major transit hubs in Pakistan, combining 5G connectivity with artificial intelligence enabled services as part of its wider technology offerings. The deployment follows a separate indoor 5G connectivity project launched at the same airport by the Pakistan Airports Authority, reflecting a wider push across the aviation sector to modernize connectivity infrastructure at major airports as passenger demand for reliable digital services continues to grow.
