Xiaomi’s foray into the electric vehicle (EV) market has moved closer to Pakistan as its highly anticipated SU7 Max was recently spotted at Karachi port, sparking rumors of an imminent launch. The sighting has led to speculation that Xiaomi could be preparing to introduce its EV lineup to the Pakistani market. Earlier this year, the SU7 Max was launched in Beijing, where it made a significant impact by amassing 90,000 pre-orders on its first day. Given that Xiaomi is the world’s second-largest smartphone manufacturer, its expansion into electric vehicles has garnered considerable attention.
Some social media users have speculated that Xiaomi may be testing the vehicle in Pakistan, with suggestions that Airlink Communications, which assembles Xiaomi and Redmi phones locally, could be involved in bringing Xiaomi’s electric cars to the country. While no official statement has been made by the company, industry experts believe it’s possible that Xiaomi could enter Pakistan’s EV market, especially as other international brands are making their presence felt.
Master Motors has recently introduced the Deepal electric vehicles from Changan, and Dewan Farooque Motors Limited (DFML) has begun assembling models like the Honri 2.0 and 3.0 locally. Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has also entered the market, signaling a growing interest in electric mobility within Pakistan.
If Xiaomi does officially launch the SU7 Max in Pakistan, analysts predict that the base model could be priced between PKR 9 million and PKR 9.5 million, based on its international price of roughly $31,000. Despite the growing speculation, there has been no official word regarding the exact release date, and it remains unclear how many units have been imported into Pakistan. Whether these imports are intended for testing purposes or cater to affluent car enthusiasts is still unknown.
If launched, the SU7 Max could spark significant interest, but Xiaomi will face the challenge of convincing consumers to trust a brand known primarily for affordable smartphones. The company’s lack of focus on after-sales support and warranty services in the past may also raise concerns, but the arrival of Xiaomi’s electric vehicle lineup could add an exciting dynamic to the evolving Pakistani automotive market.
