Xiaomi has started crowdfunding for the Smart Camera 5 Pro Full-Color Night Vision in China, pricing it at around $64 during the campaign, with the camera set to carry a regular retail price of around $90 once crowdfunding ends. Xiaomi describes the Smart Camera 5 Pro as its first “day and night full-color” camera, with the main focus on keeping security footage in color even in low-light conditions, addressing a common complaint with budget security cameras that switch to grainy black-and-white infrared footage once lighting conditions become dark. Most affordable security cameras on the market still rely on this kind of monochrome night vision, making Xiaomi’s push toward full-color low-light recording a notable differentiator within its own product lineup and the broader budget smart camera segment.
The Smart Camera 5 Pro uses a dual-lens camera system consisting of an 8MP main sensor and a 4MP secondary sensor, with the setup supporting 4K video output alongside the full-color night vision capability. This represents a meaningful upgrade over Xiaomi’s earlier Smart Camera C500 Pro, which offered only a single 5MP sensor, positioning the new dual-sensor 4K configuration as a significant step up in both resolution and low-light performance. Xiaomi has also equipped the camera with a built-in soft light that can provide additional illumination when required, working alongside several night-vision modes designed for different situations, including human detection, event-triggered monitoring, and a mode specifically designed to avoid visible red light, useful for less intrusive monitoring in spaces like bedrooms or nurseries.
On the intelligence side, the Smart Camera 5 Pro includes a local AI processor capable of 1.5 TOPS of computing performance, allowing the camera to identify people and pets and detect crying sounds directly on the device without sending detection data to the cloud for analysis. This on-device processing approach addresses a growing consumer concern around smart home cameras routinely streaming footage to external servers for AI analysis, giving Xiaomi a privacy-oriented selling point alongside the camera’s core imaging capabilities. The camera also features a dual-motor pan-and-tilt system providing wider coverage, capable of rotating through 360 degrees horizontally and moving across a 174-degree vertical range, with Xiaomi positioning the camera for use in living rooms, nurseries, elder-care environments, and pet monitoring specifically.
Connectivity includes support for two-way voice calls, Mijia Smart Connect, and dual-band Wi-Fi 6, which Xiaomi claims can improve transmission speeds by up to 60 percent compared to earlier Wi-Fi standards. Users can store footage using microSD cards, cloud storage, or NAS systems, with the camera also using Xiaomi’s AOR all-day low-power recording system designed to reduce storage consumption while keeping important footage available. Xiaomi has additionally included privacy features such as lens masking, local AI processing, and access controls, particularly relevant given the camera’s positioning for private spaces like bedrooms and nurseries. The Xiaomi Smart Camera 5 Pro Full-Color Night Vision is currently available through crowdfunding in China, with no confirmed timeline yet for international availability, including in markets like Pakistan where Xiaomi’s smart home product range has continued to expand in recent years.
