Qurat-ul-Ain Nadeem is a PhD student currently studying at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). She has recently been selected for the prestigious Marconi Society Paul Baran Young Scholar Award for her outstanding achievement in the field of communication and transmission technology.
She did her electrical engineering from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), and then moved to KSA to pursue her master’s degree and a Ph.D. in 2015, under the guidance of Professor Mohamed-Slim Alouini.
The academic advisors at KAUST nominated Qurat-ul-Ain for the award. She is to receive the award along with a cash prize of $5000 in Bologna, Italy on October 2nd. She will be among the four finalists to be presented with the award by the society.
The topic of her research is: Full-Dimension (FD) and massive multiple inputs, multiple outputs (MIMO) is far better in comparison with present wireless communication systems and is more proficient in increasing, almost to double, the average throughput of the Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems. It is said that her proposed system is extremely advantageous in urban settings.
According to sources, Qurat-ul-Ain’s approach to 5G is distinctive as she focused on the 3D channel modeling and technical aspects of the antenna pattern in extent as related to the prior studies which went on the uniformity of FD-MIMO technology in the 3GPP.
