The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) in collaboration with Lahore Police has developed an app called ‘E-Gadget Monitoring System’ to recover stolen smartphones.
According to the local news, the app has been developed for Android and iOS and is to be distributed among smartphone retailers in the country to record the basic data of all the smartphones being sold. The app is currently in its pilot testing phase and is being used by a handful of retailers in Lahore.
It is said that the application will be linked to a police control room and a notification will be generated if the phone is snatched or stolen. Basically, the IMEI numbers of each smartphone will be stored in the application, and if one files an FIR against the number, the police will get activated to take action.
The step has come as a very appreciated one, as the issue of mobile phone snatching is very prevalent in the country.
