The Telenor Internet of Things (IoT) Awards took place in Karachi on 18th November 2015, where the IDG Pakistan team got the chance to speak to some of the innovators presenting their innovations.
Talking to IDG is Shahid Malik, the COO from Zaheen Machines about their device called Jal Bujh. Mr. Shahid explained that the product Jal Bujh modernizes the 60 year old traditional thermostat. He explained that the traditional thermostat is set to one temperature to heat up the cold water, and this setting is for the whole day which results in a lot of wasted energy.
Keeping in mind that the average hot water consumption is about 4-5 times a day, but the traditional thermostat provides that hot water 24 hours a day instead. “By attaching the Jal Bujh product we can program it and give it 12 different schedules and time can be set and will move your thermostat and during those timings it starts from pilot, warm, hot, very hot and back to pilot it will move throughout the whole day running the schedule every day.” said Mr. Shahid. Basically the job of this product is to vary the temperature throughout the day in order to save the consumption of gas. The 18-20 hours when one does not need hot water, the device will bring the thermostat temperature back to pilot saving 30% gas and about 50% reduction of gas cost.
Mr. Shahid talking about the instillation of the device said that it is not difficult at all, one just straps on the device to the thermostat, and the app is available on Android and iOS for download and one can put in their schedule on it and send the instructions to the device just by the click of a button.
The device is available on sale at the SNGPL domestic consumers at very affordable price with the installment price being Rs4670, i.e. about Rs320 per month for 11 months. The product is also available online for Rs3800.
