The winners of the Google News Initiative (GNI Asia Pacific Innovation Challenge have been announced, and among the 23 selected is Pakistan’s very own Jang Media Group.
Jang Media Group was the only participant from Pakistan among 215 news organizations and technology companies across the region.
According to the local news, Jang Media Group has announced that it will use this opportunity to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR) platforms for digitizing its news archives. In the past, the media group has also been showcased twice as a global example of innovation in Google Developer Conferences in 2016-2017.
Kate Beddoe, the head of News and Publishing Partnerships at Google, in a statement said, “We want to support innovators in this space — those who are pioneering approaches that involve everything from granting digital currency to subscription-based membership models.”
