Uber the ride hailing app has just announced the launch of UberPITCH 2018, a nationwide competition to select a startup that has a unique and compelling idea. The competition is to be powered by Ignite and in collaboration with the National Incubation Centres (NIC).

The selected startups at UberPITCH will get guidance by experienced trainers, as they have their ideas judged by investors and mentors during the course of the competition.

According to Anthony le Roux, Regional General Manager of Middle East & Africa at Uber,

“UberPITCH is our way of supporting young startups in the countries we operate in. A thriving startup environment is a representation of a youth ready to take the reins of tomorrow. Uber, a startup itself, wants to share its global expertise and resources with young entrepreneurs around the world, so they too can make a positive difference.”

The announcement of UberPITCH was made at an event attended by Uber’s management, and leaders from all over the industry. Safee Shah, GM Uber Pakistan at the launch said,

“Pakistan has a bright future ahead if the startup ecosystem continues to thrive and Uber wants to play a leading role in that domain with programs like UberPITCH.”

The registrations for the event open on the 17thof August 2018 till 8thSeptember 2018.  After that Uber will be announcing the top 20 startups from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta.

The selected startups will go through to the first round called the PITCH camp where mentors from both NICs and Uber will help the selected startups practice their business pitch. After graduating from the PITCH camp, they will be given the opportunity to present their startup idea to a panel of judges during the qualifier round. Furthermore, the successful startups from the qualifier round will get a chance to pitch their ideas to some of the biggest investors in the industry during an Uber trip.

The winner of the UberPitch will get a chance to showcase their business idea at ArabNet Digital Summit in Dubai, get free of cost workspace at one of the NICs for two months, mentorship hours with Uber team and Uber credits.
