Abu Dhabi has announced plans to establish a national scale artificial intelligence supercomputer in India with a computing capacity of 8 exaflops, marking a significant development in bilateral technology cooperation. The project was unveiled on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi and reflects deepening strategic collaboration between the two countries in advanced computing and digital infrastructure.

The initiative follows the fifth India UAE Strategic Dialogue held in December 2025 and the visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in January 2026, where both sides expanded cooperation in defence, technology, space, and energy. The supercomputer will be delivered by G42 in partnership with US based Cerebras, known for manufacturing high performance AI computing systems. The collaboration also includes Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, India’s government run institution specializing in supercomputing and advanced information technology research. Together, the partners aim to strengthen India’s domestic AI capabilities by building one of the most powerful computing platforms globally.

An 8 exaflop system is capable of performing eight quintillion calculations per second, placing it among the world’s highest capacity AI computing environments. Officials state that the infrastructure will significantly expand India’s ability to train and deploy advanced AI models at scale, supporting research, enterprise applications, and public sector innovation. The supercomputer will be hosted within India and operate under governance frameworks defined by Indian authorities. All data processed by the system will remain within India’s jurisdiction to comply with national security and regulatory requirements, reinforcing sovereign control over AI workloads and sensitive datasets.

The project builds on earlier cooperation between G42 and MBZUAI, including the release of NANDA 87B in December 2025, an open source Hindi English large language model containing 87 billion parameters designed to advance AI applications in regional languages. With the planned deployment of the 8 exaflop system, the partnership signals continued expansion of cross border collaboration in high performance computing and artificial intelligence, positioning India to scale its AI research ecosystem while strengthening strategic technology ties with the UAE.
