Broadband for Sustainable Development: USF Updates

In a meeting held earlier today, the Board of Directors for Universal Services Fund, Minister for IT Anusha Rahman approved the auction of three important broadband for sustainable development projects including Khyber Lot, Mohmand Lot and Small Lot-2.

The Board also approved to award the contract for Establishment of Computer Labs in Government Girls Schools in Rural Areas of Islamabad Capital Territory, Phase 1.

Another important aspect addressed in the meeting included the provision of Information and Communication Technology to micro, small and medium enterprises. The estimated employment is nearly 65 million individuals and provision of ICT tools can result in greater opportunities in the local ecosystem.

The USF management also decided upon conducting a market study to understand the landscape of ICT issues among the micro, small and medium enterprises, so they can prepare recommendations.

Phase-II of the ICT for Girls project of establishing computer labs and computer skills training program in 119 Girl’s Institutions of Islamabad Capital Territory has also been approved.

In attendance at the meeting were board members including Aamir Ibrahim; CEO Jazz, Secretary IT – Rizwan Bashir Khan, Member Telecom – Mudassar Hussain, Azfar Manzoor – VP ISPS; Kaukab Iqbal Chairman Consumers Association and the senior management of USF.
