Tech Valley Pakistan has entered into a strategic partnership with HUM News aimed at strengthening digital journalism skills across the country through structured training and responsible use of emerging technologies. The agreement was signed at HUM Network headquarters in Islamabad by Umar Farooq, Chief Executive Officer of Tech Valley Pakistan, in the presence of HUM Network Chief Executive Officer Duraid Qureshi and Muhammad Rehan Ahmed, Director News at HUM News, marking a collaborative step toward enhancing newsroom capabilities in an increasingly digital media environment.
Under this partnership, journalists from HUM News bureaus in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta will participate in targeted capacity building sessions as part of Google and Tech Valley’s nationwide Digital Sahafat initiative. The training programme will focus on practical use of advanced digital tools including Gemini, NotebookLM and PinPoint, alongside modern verification techniques designed to support accurate reporting in fast paced news cycles. The initiative is intended to help journalists streamline research, manage large volumes of information and strengthen fact checking processes, while maintaining editorial judgment and ethical standards central to professional journalism.
Digital Sahafat 2.0 has been positioned by both organisations as a continuation of earlier efforts to integrate technology into Pakistani newsrooms in a meaningful and responsible way. The programme reflects a shared understanding that artificial intelligence and digital tools are meant to assist journalists rather than replace them. By equipping reporters, editors and producers with hands on exposure to AI powered research and verification platforms, the initiative aims to improve efficiency without compromising credibility, accuracy or editorial independence. Tech Valley officials noted that the curriculum has been designed specifically for newsroom workflows, ensuring that journalists can immediately apply what they learn to daily reporting tasks across television, digital and social media platforms.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, representatives from both sides emphasised the importance of strengthening journalistic capacity at a time when misinformation, information overload and digital disruption continue to challenge media organisations worldwide. The collaboration brings together HUM News’ extensive reach and editorial experience with Tech Valley’s focus on digital transformation and technology enablement. By combining strong storytelling traditions with structured training in ethical and responsible use of AI, the partners aim to support a more informed audience and a digitally capable media workforce that can adapt to evolving consumption patterns and technological change.
The partnership also aligns with broader efforts to improve digital literacy within Pakistan’s media ecosystem by extending access to modern tools beyond major urban centres. Journalists participating in the programme will gain exposure to global best practices while addressing local reporting needs, helping ensure that technology adoption remains grounded in the realities of Pakistani newsrooms. Through Digital Sahafat 2.0, Tech Valley and HUM News seek to contribute to a media environment where innovation supports journalistic values, strengthens public trust and enables news organisations to navigate the digital era with confidence and responsibility.
