Chief Justice of Pakistan, CJP Yahya Afridi, recently held a comprehensive meeting with Accountant General Pakistan Revenues, AGPR Islamabad, Kamran Rashid, to review initiatives aimed at accelerating the digitalisation of government payments in the Supreme Court. The meeting, held on December 15, focused on assessing progress on key initiatives designed to modernise financial management systems and enhance efficiency in court operations. AGPR Kamran Rashid briefed CJP Afridi on measures undertaken to implement an online billing solution, which is expected to become operational within two weeks. The system is aimed at expediting expenditure-related payments while eliminating the reliance on manual bills and cheques, providing a more transparent and efficient financial process for the judiciary.
CJP Afridi welcomed the initiative and assured full institutional support, highlighting that strengthening financial management systems within the Supreme Court remains a priority. He further expressed interest in extending the initiative to high courts, subject to approval from their respective chief justices, ensuring broader adoption of digital payment processes across the judiciary. By introducing a fintech-enabled billing platform, the Supreme Court aims to reduce administrative bottlenecks, increase accuracy in financial operations, and provide faster processing of payments, aligning judicial operations with contemporary digital standards.
In addition to expenditure-side improvements, the Chief Justice emphasised the need to digitise receipt-side financial instruments, allowing litigants and other stakeholders to deposit court fees, securities, and related payments digitally. He underscored that such measures should be implemented in coordination with State Bank of Pakistan to maintain secure, standardised, and transparent financial transactions. This approach is intended to improve convenience for users while ensuring compliance with financial regulations and protecting the integrity of the judiciary’s payment systems. Integrating digital solutions with financial oversight mechanisms demonstrates a step toward operational efficiency and adoption of modern banking and fintech practices within public institutions.
The meeting also included a ceremonial component, with AGPR Kamran Rashid presenting a commemorative shield to CJP Afridi in recognition of his support for financial modernisation initiatives. This collaborative effort reflects the judiciary’s commitment to adopting digital solutions that streamline processes, enhance accountability, and enable a more efficient financial management framework. The online billing system and fintech-enabled mechanisms are expected to serve as a model for other federal institutions, providing a scalable template for the digitisation of payments and receipts across government departments. By leveraging technology in financial operations, the Supreme Court is taking steps to ensure that its processes are transparent, efficient, and aligned with broader national objectives for digital governance.
