Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission SUPARCO and National Telecommunication Corporation NTC have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at advancing satellite-based telecommunication and information technology services. The agreement emphasizes collaboration to support the national vision of Satellite-Powered Digital Pakistan, combining the operational capabilities and technical expertise of both institutions. The partnership intends to extend digital access and communication solutions to areas that have traditionally faced connectivity challenges, leveraging both space-based and terrestrial infrastructures to enhance nationwide digital inclusion.
Under the terms of the MoU, NTC will gain access to Geo Communication Satellites, enabling it to provide stable and reliable connectivity across the country. This access is expected to support a variety of communication needs, particularly for public sector institutions and mission-critical operations where conventional infrastructure is limited. SUPARCO, in turn, will utilize NTC’s terrestrial network to deliver an array of satellite-enabled services, including satellite communication, imagery, geospatial applications, cloud-based solutions, and secure digital platforms. This collaboration will facilitate more efficient service delivery and improved data accessibility for government and private sector organizations alike.
The partnership also focuses on strengthening Pakistan’s homegrown capabilities in telecommunication and space technologies. By combining satellite assets with terrestrial networks, both organizations aim to ensure consistent service availability in remote and underserved regions, fostering greater connectivity and digital empowerment nationwide. The agreement is anticipated to enhance communication networks, data security, and cloud infrastructure, providing a more integrated approach to satellite and IT service deployment.
The signing ceremony took place at NTC Headquarters in Islamabad and was attended by Chairman SUPARCO Mohammad Yousuf Khan, Managing Director NTC Major General Ali Farhan, and senior officials from both organizations. This collaboration represents a coordinated effort to bridge digital gaps, improve mission-critical communications, and leverage technological resources to advance Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. By harnessing both space-based and terrestrial capabilities, SUPARCO and NTC are creating a framework that supports more reliable communication services and strengthens the country’s overall digital ecosystem.
