Fuse Games, comprised of former Criterion developers behind titles like Need for Speed and Burnout, unveiled a new Star Wars racing experience at The Game Awards 2025. Titled Star Wars: Galactic Racer, the game promises fast-paced arcade-style racing that goes beyond traditional podracing by including a mix of pods and classic speeders. The game is scheduled to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2026, adding a fresh dimension to the growing lineup of Star Wars titles currently in development.
Published by Secret Mode, Star Wars: Galactic Racer marks the second Star Wars project revealed during The Game Awards and is the sixth known title under development. Compared to other upcoming Star Wars games such as Star Wars Eclipse, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake, Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic, Star Wars Zero Company, and the third Star Wars Jedi installment, Galactic Racer aims to introduce variety through its racing-focused gameplay and customization features. The game emphasizes dynamic racing experiences and personalized strategies that challenge players to navigate risk and reward during each event.
Matt Webster, CEO of Fuse Games, highlighted the team’s vision for the game in a press release, stating that Star Wars has always represented the “power of wonder,” and that racing provides one of the most thrilling expressions of this idea. He emphasized that Galactic Racer seeks to reinvent what a racing game can be by offering adventurous, spectacular, and exhilarating gameplay. According to Webster, every race will be designed to feel alive, providing unique experiences on each run while rewarding skill and strategy.
Douglas Reilly, vice president and general manager at Lucasfilm, commented on the game’s development, noting that Star Wars has always drawn inspiration from racing culture, from iconic podracing sequences to high-speed galactic chases. He added that Fuse Games has captured that spirit and expanded it into a new form of racing adventure. Star Wars: Galactic Racer will allow players to build and customize their vehicles while progressing through the Galactic League. Starting as a lone racer in the Outer Rim, players will have the opportunity to become celebrated names in the galaxy’s racing community. The game is designed as a runs-based racing experience, ensuring that no two races play out the same, enhancing replayability and long-term engagement for players.
With its combination of pods, speeders, and extensive customization options, Star Wars: Galactic Racer aims to carve out a unique space within both the Star Wars franchise and the broader arcade racing genre. By leveraging the experience of former Criterion developers, the game intends to offer high-speed thrills, visually striking environments, and strategic gameplay that appeals to fans of Star Wars and racing games alike. As the 2026 launch approaches, enthusiasts are closely watching for further updates and previews that will reveal more about the racing mechanics, tracks, and competitive features within the Galactic League.
