U Microfinance Bank (U Bank) and Raqami Islamic Digital Retail Bank Ltd. (RIDBL) announced a groundbreaking partnership today. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in Pakistan’s digital banking landscape, offering greater accessibility and convenience for customers.
Through this strategic partnership, U Bank will extend its extensive network of over 375 physical branches across Pakistan to RIDBL’s digital banking clientele. This innovative approach allows RIDBL’s customers to enjoy seamless access to Shariah-compliant Cash In/Cash Out (CICO) services and other branch banking facilities. This signifies a unique merging of traditional and digital banking worlds, ultimately creating a more accessible and convenient banking experience for all.
This collaboration aligns perfectly with the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) vision for the digital banking sector. Unveiled in January 2022, the regulatory framework encourages such partnerships to optimize brick-and-mortar infrastructure utilization. The ultimate goal is to expand financial access for citizens and reduce overall service costs for customers.
The partnership was officially established at a recent ceremony in Islamabad. Mr. Mohamed Essa Al Taheri, President & CEO of U Bank, and Mr. Umair Aijaz, CEO of RIDBL, along with esteemed members from both organizations, celebrated this momentous occasion.
“Through this partnership with RIDBL,” said Mr. Mohamed Essa Al Taheri, “we’re not just facilitating transactions, but driving financial inclusion and economic empowerment in Pakistan. Collaboration is key to positive change, and we’re excited to combine our strengths with RIDBL to deliver innovative financial solutions that meet evolving customer needs.”
Mr. Umair Aijaz, CEO of Raqami Islamic Digital Bank Ltd., echoed this sentiment: “At Raqami, we envision a transformative banking landscape where accessibility empowers individuals. Together with U Bank, we’re not just reimagining banking; we’re reshaping it, setting new standards for seamless Islamic digital experiences.”
This strategic collaboration paves the way for further innovation in Pakistan’s digital banking sector. By exploring additional use cases, both organizations aim to create a more inclusive and accessible banking ecosystem for the nation.
