The introduction of smart cars was suggested as an effective tool in anti-crime operations after allegations of a “record-breaking” spike in street crimes in Karachi.

The recommendation was made by DIG South, who provided a briefing on security, law and order conditions, and police actions against crime in the city’s South area during a review meeting presided over by Inspector General of Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon.
According to a statement, the DIG South was informed on the strategy and action plan of the South police against crimes, which included the present status of law and order, contemporary approaches, and equipment such as high powered cameras and search devices.

He also advocated for the development of smart cars with features like contemporary technology, digital communication systems, the internet, and body cameras. He continued, “This programme would not only deter criminals but also foster a sense of security among citizens.

The DIG South also provided a briefing on all of Shaheen Force’s operations, including the investigation division, the mobile phone recovery section, and the case file preparation rooms.
While delivering directions for the replacement of CCTV cameras in several South Asian locations, Sindh IG welcomed the suggestion regarding smart cars.

The IG Sindh recommended giving it the name of police patrol car and suggested sending Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, practical ideas for its introduction for formal approval.

The smart car (police patrol car) initiative can begin in the southern zone after verification processes, he continued.

According to the IG Sindh, the crime scene unit should be used in any occurrence in a very concrete and effective manner so that incidental evidence is also gathered. He noted that by making it safe, it may be made more effective and productive against criminals.
He gave the order to create a standard SOP outlining all the activities and operations of the Shaheen Force.

At the event, DSP Investigation Clifton Fahmida Abbasi, SHOs, and SIOs received certificates of appreciation for their successful work in the South zone, while the Head Constable and Constable also received certificates of appreciation for their outstanding work on the Machar Colony incident.

AIG Operations Sindh, AIG Logistics, AIG Admin, DIG South, DIG Traffic, SSPs South, Kemari, City, Investigations, and IG Karachi Javed Akhtar Odhu also attended the meeting.
