In a significant move aimed at fostering innovation and driving collaboration in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, Sindh is set to launch a provincial-level AI task force. The initiative stems from a recent gathering of AI experts in Karachi, where professionals from academia, the private sector, and government agencies agreed on the urgent need to consolidate AI efforts and create a unified strategy to harness the full potential of the technology across various sectors.
Held at a local hotel in Karachi, the informal session brought together a diverse group of AI specialists and technology professionals representing science and technology, education, healthcare, and research institutions. The primary objective of the meeting was to encourage knowledge sharing and collaborative planning to elevate the impact of AI-driven initiatives in Sindh.
The attendees reached a consensus on forming a dedicated task force that will oversee and guide AI development efforts across the province. This new body will be composed of experts from both the public and private sectors, ensuring a multi-stakeholder approach to innovation. The task force will not only promote research and development in AI but also facilitate policy alignment, resource optimization, and practical implementation of AI-based solutions in key sectors.
Participants highlighted the need for more effective coordination between existing AI projects and initiatives to avoid duplication of efforts and ensure a streamlined approach. They also emphasized the importance of drawing insights from successful models and case studies within the country and beyond. By consolidating knowledge and strategies, the task force aims to accelerate progress in AI development while fostering inclusivity and innovation.
Prominent figures at the session included Adnan Zaidi, CEO of Proxima; Dr. Khalid Khan from the Pakistan Air Force – Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology (PAF-KIET); Ayaz Ahmed and Raza Abbas from Security AI; and FAST National University’s Sofia Hussain Ehtesham and Mohsin Kareem. These experts shared insights on ongoing AI-related research and development in their respective institutions and underlined the need for a provincial-level platform to unify such efforts.
Another major topic of discussion was the evaluation of the current AI research landscape within both industry and academia. The participants stressed the necessity of mapping out existing projects to better understand the areas of strength and those requiring additional support or realignment. This will also help in identifying talent, infrastructure gaps, and policy needs that the upcoming task force can address strategically.
The initiative reflects a growing recognition of AI as a transformative force in public service delivery, healthcare innovation, educational reform, and economic development. By establishing a provincial task force, Sindh positions itself to become a leader in responsible and inclusive AI innovation in Pakistan.
As AI continues to reshape global industries, Sindh’s proactive approach could serve as a model for other provinces aiming to harness the technology’s full potential. The creation of this task force marks a meaningful step toward building a sustainable and collaborative AI ecosystem in Pakistan.
