Sindh Government has announced a reshuffle in its cabinet portfolios, with Muhammad Ali Rashid appointed as Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh for the Science, Information & Technology Department. The notification was issued on September 26, 2025, by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, confirming immediate effect. This development comes as part of a broader reallocation of responsibilities among Special Assistants, where Abdul Jabbar Khan has been shifted from the Food Department to Relief, Jecan Khan Sarfraz Rajar has moved from Social Protection to Archives, and Sham Sunder K. Advani has been allocated the Minorities Department.

Expressing his gratitude, Muhammad Ali Rashid acknowledged the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Faryal Talpur, and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for entrusting him with this new responsibility. He stated that Information Technology is not just another sector, but the backbone of governance, economic growth, and social empowerment in Sindh. Rashid highlighted areas such as digital governance, e-services, youth skill development, innovation, and cybersecurity as central to the province’s transformation into a modern, connected, and future-ready region.

The newly appointed Special Assistant stressed that IT holds the key to bridging multiple gaps across governance and society. By strengthening digital infrastructure, the Sindh Government aims to expand access to e-services and empower the youth with new-age skills aligned with innovation and cybersecurity requirements. This aligns with the provincial leadership’s vision of creating an inclusive digital ecosystem that enables economic opportunities, better public service delivery, and technological readiness for the challenges of the future.

The government’s official notification reaffirmed its commitment to reorganizing cabinet portfolios to strengthen governance and efficiency across departments. With this shift, Sindh’s Science, Information & Technology portfolio is expected to play a more strategic role in shaping policies that not only advance digital adoption but also improve security frameworks and innovation-led growth. Observers note that this appointment underscores the government’s intent to prioritize IT as a central pillar of governance and development in the province.
