Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Tuesday visited National Telecommunications Centre to assess its operational performance and review ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening secure communication channels across federal institutions. The visit focused on evaluating the centre’s technical capabilities and its role in supporting reliable and protected telecommunications infrastructure for government entities at a time when digital governance frameworks are expanding nationwide.
During the visit, senior officials at National Telecommunications Centre provided a detailed briefing on the organisation’s mandate and its operational responsibilities in maintaining secure and resilient telecommunications networks for federal ministries and departments. The briefing outlined how the centre continues to provide dedicated communication links and managed services designed to ensure confidentiality, availability and integrity of official correspondence. Officials informed the minister that efforts are underway to further enhance network redundancy, improve data protection mechanisms and align infrastructure upgrades with emerging global standards in cybersecurity and digital communication resilience.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja underscored the importance of strengthening cybersecurity protocols to counter evolving digital risks that accompany increasing reliance on technology in public administration. She stressed the need for continuous monitoring systems, regular security audits and capacity building within technical teams to safeguard sensitive government information. Emphasising modernisation, the minister highlighted the urgency of upgrading legacy systems and deploying advanced solutions that can support higher bandwidth requirements, secure data transmission and integrated communication platforms across departments.
