Scientia Pakistan Magazine has announced the launch of its first onsite Science Writing Workshop, scheduled to take place at Habib University, Karachi, on September 12–13, 2025. Designed as an immersive two-day program, the workshop will focus on building capacity in science communication and aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and public understanding. It offers a platform for STEM graduates, professional journalists, researchers, and aspiring science writers to learn, practice, and refine their skills in conveying complex scientific concepts in clear and engaging ways. After successfully running four remote science writing internships between 2023 and 2025, Scientia Pakistan is now bringing this initiative into an in-person format, creating a dynamic space for participants to engage directly with mentors and peers.

The event will feature sessions with international speakers, experienced science journalists, writing instructors, and STEM researchers who will provide hands-on training. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to craft compelling science stories, communicate technical ideas effectively for a general audience, and pitch their work to science-focused media outlets. A central part of the workshop is its emphasis on digital communication, equipping participants with techniques for publishing on online platforms and engaging diverse readerships. The program also includes panel discussions and interactive exercises to enhance participants’ storytelling skills, ensuring that they leave with both practical tools and professional connections. With limited spots available, the workshop is being positioned as a unique opportunity for individuals seeking to enter or advance in the field of science communication.

The two-day agenda has been designed to balance theoretical guidance with applied practice. Day one, scheduled for the evening of September 12, will run from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, focusing on introductory discussions and networking. Day two, taking place on September 13 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, will offer intensive sessions and practical writing exercises. Registration for the workshop is open until August 23, 2025, through the official event portal, and organizers are encouraging early applications due to the limited seats. The venue, Habib University in Karachi, has partnered through its Natural Science Club to host the initiative, further cementing its role as a hub for fostering critical thinking and knowledge-sharing in science and technology.

As part of the program, Scientia Pakistan will also be hosting ACM-W: ACM’s Women in Computing at Habib University’s campus. ACM-W is an international initiative that supports and advocates for women’s participation in computing and technology-related fields. The inclusion of ACM-W in this workshop brings an added layer of mentorship, with women science journalists and technology mentors engaging in discussions, talks, and networking sessions. This component underscores the broader vision of the event—making science communication not only accessible but also inclusive, ensuring that diverse voices are represented in the narrative of science and innovation.
