Samsung is reportedly preparing a substantial update to its digital assistant Bixby, integrating advanced AI capabilities as part of the upcoming One UI 8.5 update. Leaks from a rooted Samsung device reveal a redesigned interface and expanded functionality, suggesting that the company is actively testing this new version before a wider release. Screenshots shared by users show that the upgraded Bixby offers a more interactive and versatile experience, reflecting Samsung’s efforts to enhance its AI-driven services. While the update has not been officially confirmed, these leaks indicate a significant enhancement over the current public iteration of the assistant.

The new Bixby appears to leverage Perplexity AI to handle user queries more effectively, supporting reports of Samsung’s partnership with the AI company. Integration with external services such as The Weather Channel, HERE Maps, Skyscanner, and Uber allows users to receive information and perform actions without switching apps. The assistant is designed to stay active on top of other applications, enabling users to continue interactions while remaining in their current workflow. Additional features include the ability to like or dislike responses, continue conversations seamlessly, and access a Source button that redirects to Perplexity’s website or app for reference, enhancing transparency and context in responses.

Beyond answering queries, Bixby retains its core system-level control capabilities. Users can adjust phone settings including Bluetooth, Dark Mode, and other preferences directly through voice commands. The assistant also remembers previous conversations, supporting document uploads for more detailed discussions in a structured style. This combination of AI intelligence, contextual memory, and system integration positions the new Bixby as a versatile tool for both casual users and those seeking more advanced digital assistant functionality.

Samsung is reportedly developing alternatives to features found in Google’s Gemini, including Circle To Ask, which functions similarly to Circle to Search, and Bixby Live, which mirrors Gemini Live capabilities. Bixby Live allows real-time sharing of screen or camera views, enabling interactive discussions about on-screen content or physical surroundings. While these developments point to a near-ready Bixby upgrade linked to One UI 8.5, Samsung may continue internal testing to refine performance and determine the timing of a public rollout. These enhancements signal a significant step forward for Samsung’s AI assistant, positioning it as a more capable companion for users navigating daily tasks and digital interactions.
