Jagex has officially confirmed that RuneScape: Dragonwilds will launch on PlayStation 5 in Fall 2026, marking the first time in the franchise’s 25-year history that a RuneScape title has arrived on console. The announcement was made during Sony’s State of Play showcase for June 2026, where Jagex also confirmed that the open-world survival crafting game will join the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalogue as a day-one release. This means active PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will be able to download and play the game at no additional cost from the moment it launches, immediately unlocking the experience without a separate purchase.

Completely separate from the beloved RuneScape massively multiplayer online role-playing game, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026, Dragonwilds sees players team up to explore the many varied regions of Ashenfall, complete grand quests, grind skills, engage with legendary creatures, and survive through sorcery. The game is set on the forgotten continent of Ashenfall, where dragons have awoken, and only by mastering survival and uncovering ancient secrets can players hope to slay the Dragon Queen, either alone or with allies. The title is built on Unreal Engine 5 and supports one to four player co-operative play with full cross-play between PlayStation 5 and PC.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds has already sold over one million copies during its ongoing Steam Early Access phase since launching in April 2025, demonstrating substantial demand for the franchise’s survival crafting spinoff well before its console debut. Executive Producer Jesse America said the team was incredibly proud to have Dragonwilds launch on PlayStation Plus, noting that it means even more players can effortlessly team up and explore Ashenfall, go questing across its dangerous regions, battle dragons, build up skills, and ultimately survive its challenges. As RuneScape enters its 25th year, Jagex has described its broader strategy as accelerating the expansion of the franchise into a wider ecosystem of games and connected experiences, including reducing monetisation mechanics and building a multi-genre future for the RuneScape universe.

For more than two decades, the RuneScape franchise remained tied to personal computers and mobile devices through RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, never making the move to consoles. That changes with Dragonwilds, which becomes the franchise’s first PlayStation and first console release in its entire history. A specific launch date within Fall 2026 has not yet been confirmed by Jagex, with the publisher expected to announce further details on the PlayStation 5 release timeline and any additional content updates as the launch window approaches.
