Punjab’s Office of AI has launched a pilot of Awaaz-e-Sehat, an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to support pregnant women through better-informed healthcare interactions and continued guidance beyond hospital visits. The initiative is being tested in a public healthcare setting, with a focus on applying AI to practical healthcare needs and improving the support available to expectant mothers. The pilot marks an effort to move AI applications from development into real-world public service delivery.

The project is being carried out in partnership with the National AI Hub at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), with support from the Gates Foundation. The collaboration brings together government-led digital initiatives, academic expertise and external support to test how AI can be applied to maternal health services. Awaaz-e-Sehat is intended to help pregnant women access relevant information and engage more effectively with healthcare services, including after they leave a hospital or healthcare facility.

The pilot reflects a broader push to explore AI-enabled solutions for public services in Punjab. In healthcare, digital platforms can help extend access to information, provide ongoing guidance and support communication between patients and healthcare providers. However, the effectiveness of Awaaz-e-Sehat will depend on factors such as the accuracy and accessibility of its guidance, its integration with existing healthcare services, and its ability to address the needs of women from different communities.

Further details about the pilot’s implementation, participating healthcare facilities, number of users and measured outcomes have not yet been disclosed. The initiative’s results could help inform decisions about whether the platform can be expanded to reach more pregnant women across Punjab. Its progress will also offer insight into how government, universities and technology partners can work together to introduce AI-based services in public healthcare.
