Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will personally distribute Honahar Scholarships and laptops to deserving students at the University of Sahiwal on October 15, marking the first ceremony in what the provincial government has planned as a division-wide distribution drive running through October and November. Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat made the announcement through a social media post, confirming that the initial event will cover students from the Sahiwal, Okara, and Pakpattan districts.
The October 15 ceremony serves as the inaugural event for the Honahar Scholarship and laptop distribution initiative, with the provincial government having committed to holding similar ceremonies across all nine divisions of Punjab within the same two-month window. Hayat expressed confidence that the schedule would be completed within the stated timeframe, though he did not disclose the specific number of scholarships or laptops that would be distributed at each individual ceremony.
The Honahar Scholarship and laptop scheme forms part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s broader education and youth empowerment agenda for Punjab, which has included the introduction of an artificial intelligence curriculum in schools, Google Career Certifications for students and teachers, and the e-bike distribution programme for students. The distribution of laptops to high-performing students continues a tradition that has been a central feature of Punjab’s student welfare programming across successive governments, aimed at reducing the technology access gap and equipping merit students with tools for further academic and professional development.
With ceremonies planned across all nine divisions, the Honahar initiative is designed to reach students across Punjab’s geographic breadth rather than concentrating distribution in major urban centres, ensuring that high-performing students from smaller cities and districts have equal access to the programme regardless of where they study.
