Punjab Transport Company (PTC) has introduced a fully online system for issuing route permits across the province, aimed at making the permit application process faster and more accessible for transporters and commuters. Citizens can now apply for route permits through the Punjab Portal website without needing to visit government offices or handle paper-based documentation. The launch is part of an expanding push by provincial authorities to integrate digital solutions into core public services.
Alongside the website functionality, PTC has also launched a mobile application that supports route permit applications and online payments. The app enables users to apply directly from their smartphones, check application status, and pay required fees without standing in queues or visiting physical locations. By shifting these services to digital platforms, PTC aims to eliminate delays, reduce administrative overhead, and provide a more user-friendly interface for the public.
In parallel to digitizing route permits, PTC is preparing for the launch of an online challan system that will allow transport operators and commuters to pay fines electronically. Once deployed, this feature will make it possible to settle fines at the time of issuance using the same mobile application. The digital challan system will operate similarly to existing models used by traffic enforcement agencies, integrating payment gateways and real-time updates for fine records.
Previously, paying fines issued by PTC required commuters to visit National Bank branches, a method often cited as inconvenient and time-consuming. The upcoming digital challan solution is expected to resolve these concerns by offering a secure, instant, and accessible way to clear dues. It also supports transparency by providing digital records and reducing the need for physical verification.
The broader digitization initiative by PTC aligns with Punjab’s strategy to modernize public services using technology. The shift to digital platforms not only saves time but also reduces errors typically associated with manual processing. For both transporters and daily commuters, the ability to manage permits and fines online adds efficiency and clarity to interactions with the transport authority.
PTC’s new systems also promote accountability and data integrity by creating a centralized, easily accessible database of permit and challan records. Users receive digital confirmations, reducing the chances of disputes or record mismatches. The combination of website and mobile interfaces ensures that services are accessible to a wider segment of the population, including those in remote areas where government offices may be harder to reach.
By transitioning to an integrated digital platform, PTC is aiming to build a more responsive and service-oriented public transport ecosystem. These digital solutions reflect a broader movement within Punjab to embrace automation and digital access in administrative functions, ultimately offering greater ease and reliability to users interacting with government services.
