Punjab has taken a significant step toward modernizing technical and vocational education with the launch of an online registration portal for technical institutes. The initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to streamline the registration process, ensuring greater accessibility to skill development opportunities for students across the province.
Set to go live on March 1, the online platform is designed to simplify and accelerate the registration process for technical and vocational institutions. Through this system, students will be able to apply for admissions, access relevant course information, and receive certifications—all through a fully digital process. The move is expected to reduce bureaucratic delays, enhance transparency, and make skill acquisition more convenient for the youth. One of the key features of this initiative is the introduction of discounted registration fees for students enrolling in three-year Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) programs. Additionally, to facilitate the registration of institutions, the government has relaxed the previously mandatory requirement for institutions to open a bank account in their own name. This change is expected to encourage more institutions to register, thereby expanding access to technical education.
The Punjab Skills Development Authority (PSDA), the regulatory body overseeing the initiative, has made it mandatory for all technical institutions to register under the PSDA Act 2019. Failure to comply with this regulation could result in severe penalties, including up to six months of imprisonment or a fine of up to Rs. 1 million. In a move to promote transparency and protect students from fraudulent institutions, the PSDA has also published a list of 622 unauthorized institutions on its official website. To further support students, the PSDA web portal will provide comprehensive details about approved institutions, available courses, and enrollment numbers. Additionally, students will have access to course curricula and the ability to file complaints against unapproved institutions directly through the portal. This digital transformation is expected to enhance the credibility of technical education in Punjab and ensure that students receive training from recognized institutions.
Prospective students and institutions can register through the PSDA web portal at www.psda.punjab.gov.pk. For further inquiries, they can contact the PSDA helpline at 042-99231184 or reach out via email at registration@psda.punjab.gov.pk. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the importance of technical education in empowering the youth and strengthening the economy.
“Our goal is to equip young people with the skills needed to secure employment and drive economic growth. By simplifying access to technical education, we are paving the way for a more skilled and self-sufficient workforce in Punjab.”
The launch of the online registration system reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to modernizing education and ensuring that technical and vocational training becomes more efficient, transparent, and widely accessible.
