Punjab Information Technology Board has invited eligible information technology companies across the province to participate in the Chief Minister Information Technology Internship Program, a government supported initiative aimed at strengthening Punjab’s digital workforce and accelerating the growth of the provincial technology sector. The program is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by placing fresh graduates in Information Technology and Computer Science into professional work environments where they can gain structured, hands-on experience aligned with market needs.
Under the framework of the program, participating companies will be able to onboard skilled graduates with financial support from the Government of Punjab. Each company will receive Rs12,500 per intern per month as administrative support, while the provincial government will fully fund a monthly stipend of Rs50,000 for every selected intern. Companies will retain the authority to select candidates according to their operational and technical requirements, allowing them to train interns in line with their internal workflows and long term hiring strategies. Officials believe that this arrangement will not only reduce recruitment costs for firms but also help create a sustainable talent pipeline for the province’s expanding technology ecosystem.
To qualify for participation, companies must be registered with Pakistan Software Export Board and maintain a functioning office within Punjab. They are also required to provide adequate office facilities and a professional working environment to ensure that interns receive meaningful exposure and mentorship during the program. Chairman PITB Faisal Yousaf stated that the Government of Punjab intends to empower young graduates through structured industry engagement, adding that stronger linkages between academia and the private sector are essential for sustaining growth in the information technology industry.
In a related development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board has announced a six month paid internship program specifically for women in the province. The initiative aims to enhance female participation in technology and digital fields by offering practical experience in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, user interface and user experience design, web development, application development, graphic design, and digital marketing. Selected interns will receive a monthly stipend of Rs30,000, reflecting a broader push by provincial governments to expand digital skills development and improve employment outcomes in Pakistan’s technology driven economy.
